Hellenic Society of Counselling and Guidance

ELESYP, the Hellenic Society of Counselling and Guidance is the only scientific society of multiannual activity, high class and indisputable recognition in the wider relevant field in our country. Its successful course is owed the inconspicuous work of many scientists of the field who have worked with success, modesty, selflessness and dedication to the work of the Company over a number of years. This society nowadays maintains the “luxury” of being set outside governmental, unionist and political conflicts, or personal convenience and embraces. The sole revenue of ELESYP is the contributions of its members, and only on occasion there have been chosen, small scale subsidies by bureaus, publishing houses, and centres of counselling and education.

In the midst of ELESYP is gathered the whole of the scientific and managerial potential of the field; its active members who are enrolled under relatively strict conditions, are over 1,000 scientists, all occupational guidance and career counsellors who are mainly occupied in schools of secondary education and various other counselling centres in Universities, Technical Education Institutes, research centres, private entities, etc. The Society’s scientific journal, “Review of Counselling and Guidance” is being published unfailingly since 1986; it publishes articles chosen by a process of scientific assessment and is of especially high quality even by international standards. Among other separate activities of the society, an important, two-days’, annual scientific conference is held in the end of November of every year, centred on a subject that is chosen according to circumstance. Many very significant and interesting scientific propositions and announcements by acknowledged scientist of the field, in Greece and abroad, take place at the conference. Usually, more than 500 people attend and participate in it on a continuous basis, all occupational guidance and career counsellors. Let us be allowed to call to attention that it is one of the very few, if not the only one, scientific conferences in Greece that has such a big and significant audience. With respect to its historical course, the elevated values of its founders and their perpetuators – who remain at the side of the new Board of Directors too and some, when they wish, participate in its sessions – , ELESYP will continue its effort, to the extent of possibility, for valid and multifaceted scientific coverage of the very important field of professional counselling.

The new targets of ELESYP are the organisation of valid, high standard, educational seminars that will supply reliable certificates-degrees to the participants, as well as various galas and events. Also, the effort towards updating our website www.elesyp.gr, which all our members are asked to visit and contribute to, has already begun. And, the creation of an international journal with the name International Review of Counselling and Guidance where articles from the Greek edition translated into English – with the responsibility of their authors and under supervision of the editing team – will coexist with passages of international analysts of the field is planned in the near future. ELESYP will always endeavour to be a scientifically elevated and human centre, of mental and collegial communication, and of meeting between the counterparts of the field, drawing from the need of respect for its history, but also gazing into the challenges of the future.
